Children’s Book Illustrator Wanted
DESIGN TRASH SUPERHERO CHARACTER!
Awesome environmental organisation Trash Hero is looking to collaborate with a children’s illustrator (or wannabe illustrator) to produce an educational story for kids around the world.
The text is ready to go, all they need now is a talented individual to help make the words come to life!
Trash Hero is holding a contest to create “Trash Hero”: an appealing character for all ages who will be the protagonist in the story.
The best entries (shortlisted and winner) will be showcased on their Facebook pages and their website.
Once selected they will interview the shortlisted artists and the chosen winner will become the book’s illustrator with full credits!
ABOUT TRASH HERO
The Trash Hero mission is to create sustainable, community-based projects -located all around the world- that remove existing waste, and reduce future waste by inspiring long-term behaviour change. They do this through:
- Action and Awareness. Literally: they pick up trash. Whether a cigarette butt on the road, or 20,000 kilos from island beaches – if they see it, they clean it! They believe in the saying: actions speak louder than words. By spending just a few hours together picking up trash, people can see the real world consequences of being careless about waste.
- Education. They back up hands-on experience with educational information about the impact that trash has on the global environment.
- Sustainable Projects. Trash Hero creates long-term projects that bring communities together to remove and better manage their waste, and strategies that reduce the amount of waste being produced in the future.
- Inspiration. They motivate people to become Trash Heroes in their own everyday lives. Trash Hero Thailand alum have gone home to make their own heroic clean-ups around the world.
Trash Hero believes that every one of us can be a Trash Hero.
GUIDELINES
– Please send a colour sketch of the Trash Hero character to kids @ trashhero.org
– Attachments should be less than 1MB OR send a link to the image (Dropbox ok).
– You may send a link to your portfolio or any existing work if you like.
– You should be available to complete the work in the next few months.
– The Trash Hero character should be a child. It’s important that he / she is an “ordinary, everyday superhero”, so they do not need to wear a flashy outfit, but should have (at least) a yellow shirt with the TrashHero logo.
– Teachers are also welcome to ask their students to submit sketches; we will have a selection of children’s drawings of Trash Hero in the endnotes.
– The contest will close on 28 February 2017; shortlist and winner will be announced mid-end of March.
Make sure to send this to anyone in your circle of friends and family that are illustrators who love the environment!
